What
Pec recently approved to cooperate with Solar Team on an innovative project regarding solar energy. The Solar Team, a group of 15 Belgian industrial engineers, will build a solar car to compete in the World Solar Challenge 2007. This car has to race more than 1500 miles from one end of Australia to the other on a fixed course. The team's ambition is not only to complete this course, they are also determined to finish amongst the 3 fastest solar cars.

Motivation
To succesfully enter the World Solar Challenge, the Solar Team has searched companies that will assist them during this adventure. Market leading companies with state-of-the-art technology and not blind for the future.
Environmental concerns have made the industry change the way of thinking. That is why PEC continuously invests in R&D in a rapidly growing makets, suc as the Hybrid Electrical Vehicles (HEV), Space Applications,... PEC hereby recognizes the need for alternative and cleaner energy sources (electric energy, solar energy,...) for the automotive in order to preserve the environment and our current standard of living. PEC is proud to be one of the business partners in this solar energy project and is confident that the solar team will succeed in her mission.

Link with PEC
The solar car is powered by solar energy. Solar energy is not sufficient as energy source. To strive for maximum and optimal use of energy during rainy days or steep slopes while maintaining a certain speed level, an energy buffer is indispensable. That is why the solar car is equipped with a battery pack. This battery pack, made out of many individual rechargeable Li-Ion cells, will be tested and approved with our SBT2010 Secondary Battery Tester. Life cycling, capacity, and other tests will be performed in a simulated environment, representing the temperatures and humidity of an extreme climate sich as in Australia.
